Because itchy allergic skin is usually a barrier problem rather than a dirt problem. Skin holds itself together with a lipid barrier of ceramides and fatty acids. When allergies damage it, moisture escapes and irritants get in. An ordinary shampoo strips lipids by design, which is the last thing compromised skin needs. Pinox is built the other way round, with a Skin Lipid Complex of ceramides and fatty acids alongside the active.
Piroctone Olamine at 0.5% w/w, declared openly on the pack. Pinox is positioned for allergic skin management, restoring skin integrity and soothing, in a micro-emulsified formulation designed to reach skin rather than sit on the coat.
Shake well. Wet the coat and apply a thin line of shampoo from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Massage over the body to ensure good contact with the skin. Leave it on the coat for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and repeat. The contact time is not optional detail: rinsed off immediately, a medicated shampoo has not had time to do anything.
Initially 2 to 3 times a week for 4 weeks, then reduce to once a week, or as directed by your veterinarian. If skin irritation develops or increases, discontinue use and consult your vet.

Piroctone Olamine at 0.5% w/w. The concentration is declared on the pack rather than hidden inside a proprietary blend, which is what you should expect from any product making a skin claim.
Because itchy allergic skin is usually a barrier problem, not a dirt problem. Healthy skin holds itself together with a lipid barrier built largely from ceramides and fatty acids. When allergies damage that barrier, moisture escapes and irritants get in more easily. An ordinary shampoo cleans by stripping lipids, which is the one thing compromised skin cannot afford, so bathing more can make things worse rather than better.
The inactive list is Alkylpolyglucoside, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Coco-Betaine, d-Galactose, d-Mannose, Disodium EDTA, l-Rhamnose, Laureth-2, Methylpropanediol, PEG-90 Glyceryl Isostearate, Peumus boldus Leaf Extract, Purified Water, Skin Lipid Complex (Ceramides, Fatty Acids), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Spiraea ulmaria Extract, Vitamin F and Xanthan Gum. The Skin Lipid Complex and Vitamin F are the barrier-support side of the formulation.
It is about delivery. A micro-emulsified formulation is designed to carry its ingredients down to the skin rather than leaving them sitting on top of the coat. On a thick or double-coated dog that is often the difference between a shampoo doing something and doing nothing.

Massage over the pet's body to ensure good contact with the skin. Allow it to remain on the hair coat for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and repeat.
Because a medicated shampoo rinsed off immediately has not had contact time to do anything. This is the single most common reason people conclude a medicated shampoo did not work. Set a timer, use the time to check ears and paws, and then rinse.
Initially 2 to 3 times a week for 4 weeks, then reduce to once a week, or as directed by your veterinarian. Allergic skin is managed rather than cured, so the maintenance phase is the point rather than an afterthought.
If undue skin irritation develops or increases, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian. Also see your vet if there are open sores, a strong smell, hair loss in patches, or if the itching is severe, since those can point to an infection or an underlying condition that a shampoo alone will not resolve.
