Selamectin does not work like a surface treatment. Applied to the skin, it is drawn into the sebaceous glands and spreads through the coat within 24 hours, and part of it is absorbed into the bloodstream. That is what lets one pipette reach parasites living outside your cat and inside her.

Ear mites, fleas, roundworms, hookworms and heartworm disease. One 0.75 ml pipette, sized for cats 5 to 7.5 kg.

Your dog is pregnant. Or nursing. Or the puppies are three weeks old and already crawling with ticks. Almost every spot-on on the shelf says wait until 8 weeks.

Fipo-Mec is the exception. The pack states plainly that it may be used on pregnant and lactating dogs and cats, and on unweaned puppies and kittens. That is the reason to keep a bottle in the house.

A spray also covers the whole body rather than one spot, which matters for ticks that attach anywhere. Kills ticks, fleas, lice and mites. Roughly a month of tick cover, two months against fleas.
