Does Your Dog Need a Multivitamin?
Not always. If your dog eats a complete and balanced packaged food in the right amount, it already gets most vitamins. Adding a multivitamin on top adds little and can double up some vitamins.
A dog multivitamin makes sense when:
- Your dog eats home-cooked food, as most dogs in Indian homes do.
- Your puppy is growing and eats a mix of home food and packaged food.
- Your senior dog eats less than before.
- Your dog is a fussy eater and leaves half its bowl.
- Your vet says your dog needs extra nutrition after an illness.
A supplement supports a healthy dog. It does not replace a vet visit when something is wrong.
Supplements for Home-Cooked Dog Food
Roti, rice, dal, curd, chicken and eggs make a tasty bowl, but rarely a complete one. Home-cooked dog food often runs short on some vitamins, trace minerals and omega fatty acids. A daily multivitamin covers the vitamin and mineral side.
Calcium is the bigger gap in most home diets, and a multivitamin does not replace it. Ask your vet how much calcium your dog's home diet needs before you add any.
Three simple rules for home food:
- Give the multivitamin with the main meal, not on an empty stomach.
- Add Fur Radiance if your dog rarely eats fish or eggs and its coat looks dull.
- Keep onion, garlic, grapes and heavy masala out of the bowl. No supplement makes those safe.
Multivitamin Syrup vs Tablets
| Logivit Syrup | Logivit Tablets | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Puppies, small dogs, fussy eaters | Adult dogs that take treats |
| How to give | Mix into food or give from a spoon | As a treat, or crumbled into food |
| Dose control | Easy to adjust by ml | Fixed per tablet |
| Travel | Bottle needs to stay upright | Easy to carry |
| Also for cats | Yes | No, dogs only |
| Price | ₹219 for 225 ml | ₹299 for 60 tablets |
If your dog takes treats from your hand, pick the tablets. If it spits out tablets, pick the syrup.
Puppy Multivitamin
Puppies grow fast, so gaps in their food show up fast. Ask your vet when to start a puppy multivitamin, based on your puppy's age and food. Puppies on complete puppy food need less extra support than puppies on home food. The syrup is the easier choice for puppies, as you can mix it into milk-soaked food or curd rice.
Large-breed puppies need extra care. For Labradors, German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers, don't stack a calcium supplement on top of a multivitamin unless your vet says so. Too much calcium during growth can harm developing bones.
Supplements for Senior Dogs
Older dogs often eat less, so each bowl has to do more. A daily multivitamin keeps the basics coming when appetite drops. Fur Radiance helps a thinning, dry coat look healthier. For stiff joints or slow walks, speak to your vet first. We don't sell joint supplements, and stiffness can have many causes.
Dog Skin and Coat Supplements
A dull coat is often a diet problem first. Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids support healthy skin and a shiny coat, and home food rarely has enough of them. Fur Radiance Omega 3-6-9 adds omega 3, 6 and 9 with EPA and DHA. Give it once a day, as the label says. Logivit Tablets also support skin and coat as part of daily nutrition.
Give any dog skin and coat supplement at least a month. The change shows as new hair grows in.
Patchy hair loss, red skin or constant scratching is different. These often come from ticks, fungus or allergies, so see your vet. Our tick and flea range, dog shampoos and dog skin care range cover the outside of the coat.
Calming Supplements for Dogs
Diwali crackers, car rides, vet visits, grooming and being left alone stress many dogs. Herbal Calming Tablets combine ashwagandha, brahmi, chamomile, ginger and valerian. Give them before the stressful event, as the label directs. On Diwali night, keep your dog indoors, curtains closed and a fan or TV on to cover the noise.
If your dog panics, hurts itself or won't settle at all, speak to your vet. Some dogs need more than a herbal supplement.
How to Give Dog Supplements
- Follow the label. The dose depends on your dog's weight, so check the pack every time.
- Start with one product. Wait two weeks before you add a second one, so you know what is working.
- Give it with food. Most supplements sit better on a full stomach.
- Don't double up. Two multivitamins together means too much of some vitamins.
- Never use human multivitamins. They carry doses meant for people, and some contain xylitol, a sweetener that is toxic to dogs.
- Be patient. Energy and appetite may change in a few weeks. A coat takes a month or more.
- Store it right. Keep packs in a cool, dry place with the cap closed. Use the syrup within the time on the label after opening.
When to See a Vet Instead
A dog multivitamin supports daily health. It does not treat illness. See your vet if your dog:
- Stops eating for more than a day
- Loses weight suddenly
- Has vomiting or loose motions that don't stop
- Has patchy hair loss, sores or constant itching
- Limps or cries when touched

Dog Multivitamin and Supplements: FAQs
Which is the best multivitamin for dogs in India?
The best one suits your dog's food and habits. For an adult dog on home food, Logivit Multivitamin Tablets work well. For puppies, small dogs and fussy eaters, the syrup is easier to give.
Does my dog need a multivitamin if it eats packaged dog food?
Usually not, if the food is complete and balanced and your dog eats the full amount. A multivitamin helps most when your dog eats home food or eats too little.
What supplements does homemade dog food need?
Most home diets need a daily multivitamin for vitamins and minerals, and many need extra calcium. Ask your vet about calcium. Add an omega oil if the coat looks dull.
Can I give my dog a human multivitamin?
No. Human multivitamins carry doses meant for people, and some contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. Use a multivitamin made for dogs.
When can I start a puppy multivitamin?
Ask your vet, based on your puppy's age and food. The syrup is easier for young puppies, as it mixes into food.
Is multivitamin syrup better than tablets?
Neither is better. Both give daily vitamins and minerals. The syrup suits puppies and fussy eaters, while the tablets suit adult dogs that take treats.
Can I give a multivitamin and calcium together?
Only if your vet says so, especially for large-breed puppies. Too much calcium during growth can harm bones.
Can dogs take multivitamins every day?
Yes, at the dose on the label. Don't give two multivitamins together.
How long before I see results?
Energy and appetite may improve in a few weeks. A better coat shows after a month or more, as new hair grows.
Are these supplements safe for cats?
Logivit Syrup, Fur Radiance and Herbal Calming Tablets are made for both dogs and cats. Logivit Tablets are for dogs only.
