A novel protein is simply one your dog has probably never eaten. Food sensitivities tend to develop against proteins a dog has been eating repeatedly, so an unfamiliar one is what vets often reach for when working through a suspected reaction. In India the treat aisle is overwhelmingly chicken, which makes lamb genuinely novel for most dogs.
It gives you a way to keep rewarding while you investigate, which matters because training should not stop just because you are troubleshooting a diet. Introduce it gradually over a few days and watch how your dog responds. If your dog has a diagnosed food allergy, check the pack ingredients and speak to your vet before making changes.
It is still worth buying. If your dog eats chicken in their food every single day, putting a different protein into their treats is sensible variety in its own right. No problem needs to exist for rotation to be a good habit.
Because they arrive already the right size for a reward. No tearing, no snapping and no sticky fingers halfway through a command, which keeps the rhythm of a training session intact. They are also a sensible size for small dogs without needing to be broken down.
Your pet's full range of care, in one place.

Chip Chops Lamb Cubes 70g. A novel protein, and why that matters.
Simply one your dog has probably never eaten. Food sensitivities tend to develop against proteins a dog has been eating repeatedly, which is why vets often reach for an unfamiliar protein when working through a suspected reaction. In India the treat aisle is overwhelmingly chicken, which makes lamb genuinely novel for most dogs here.
Fresh lamb, with no added sugar, prepared to be highly digestible. Check the physical pack for the current full ingredient list and guaranteed analysis before use, particularly if your dog has a diagnosed allergy.
It gives you a way to keep rewarding while you investigate, which matters because training should not stop for a month just because you are troubleshooting a diet. Introduce it gradually over a few days and watch how your dog responds. If your dog has a diagnosed food allergy, check the pack ingredients and speak to your vet before making changes.
Still worth buying. If your dog eats chicken in their food every single day, putting a different protein into their treats is sensible variety in its own right. No problem needs to exist for rotation to be a good habit, and novelty makes a treat more valuable in training.
Both are novel proteins and both serve the same purpose. The practical difference is format: lamb comes as cubes, already bite-sized, while duck comes as strips that tear down into training pieces. Pick based on how you reward rather than on the protein alone.
The cube size suits small mouths well without needing breaking down. Count them strictly within the 10 percent rule for a puppy, and introduce any new protein gradually over several days.
Reseal the pack after each use and store somewhere cool and dry.
